Preface to the AutoAdmit.com edition

Please keep the following points in mind when reading this study:

1) These are not prestige or reputation rankings. I am not trying to say that School X is viewed more favorably by employers than School Y - all I am saying is, given the information available, it appears as if School X does a better job of placing its graduates at elite employers than School Y. As I point out in the paper, it’s possible for employers to prefer School Y, yet School X can still place better.

2) Remember that this is only a first public draft - it is a work in progress, and will be updated constantly over the next several weeks/months. If you have any comments, or spot any errors, or feel that something could’ve been made clearer, please let me know.

3) That said, please read the whole thing before you email me or post on the board asking a question about the methodology, or pointing out a potential error. I know the thing is long, but there is a good chance that your point was addressed somewhere, even if only in a footnote.

4) Although I make several references to the searchable dataset being made available on AutoAdmit, it has not yet been uploaded. Rachmiel is still working on the coding for that, and it’ll likely be a while before it is ready for public use. However, as soon as it is up, it will be linked to from here.

Individual acknowledgements for those who have helped me throughout this process will be posted here shortly. However, I would like to thank the entire AutoAdmit community for inspiring this study and being very supportive during the past several months.
