Schools where Finance > Econ (ugrad bschool > regular school) :
-Upenn Wharton > CAS
-CMU Tepper > HSS
-NYU Stern > CAS
-Umich Ross > LSA (and almost every other public including -Cal, UVA, UT austin, etc.)
Schools where Econ > shittybschool:
-Cornell CAS > AES
Schools where it doesn't really matter:
-MIT = Sloan (job opps about same)
-Emory = Goizuetta (your future is fucked no matter what)
1st Conclusion: Generally its true finance > econ at top schools
2nd Conclusion: Yes, cornell and emory are indeed TTT beyond belief.

If they don't have ugrad bschools and therefore don't offer finance degrees, then it is not relevant to this thread nor this discussion, is it?
In other words, the op should have been more clear in saying Finance > Econ when both are offered. Comparing Finance and Econ from different schools is another thing altogether.

Doesn't Stern have an actual economics degree? Not like Wharton, I mean, where everyone gets a B.S. in economics.
And it does depend. I know a lot of people who've studied economics at schools that offer finance degrees and they've gotten better jobs because of their background in math, statistics, and econometrics.
