An awesome restaurant called The Yankee Doodle closed down last year which was a huge deal. Also, it looks like Mory's is having a rough time and won't be re-opening immediately after break. |

The School of Art has a very independent and, for lack of a better word, artsy sub-culture within Yale. Based on my experience art students tend to engage with the rest of Yale a bit less than other grad students, which I think works for them.
They throw one helluva Halloween party each year at the sculpture building. It got shutdown prematurely this time and was moved to the painting studio for the rest of the night. Still a great time...

1) The Owl Shop: Awesome bar/cigar lounge. One of the last places in CT that still allows you to legally smoke indoors. Dimly lit, comfy leather couches, smokey, great place to kick back in your smoking jacket, wax intellectual and sip on some scotch with your buddies
2) Rudy's: Great feeling of Yale tradition at this place. Generations of names carved into the walls and tables, giant mural of the Yale Bowl on one of the walls, great beer selection on tap, nice mix of students and townies. Plus the best bar food around: delicious Belgian-style frites (french fries) with your choice of sauce.
3) Anna Liffey's: Authentic Irish Pub. A bit of a trek from most parts of campus so definitely a high townie/student ratio. Good place to watch a soccer game. Tuesday night trivia challenge is also a fun time.
4) Viva's: This has been the Thursday night bar of choice for the majority of students the past few years. Mexican themed. Trashier than the aforementioned places but also a more lively vibe. Bartenders are assholes, though, and the nachos might kill you.
