Didn't realize they were doing more than just firing Colbert. So they're eliminating the whole position? They're just not going to have a host?

This doesn't make any sense. BTW Colbert was only making $15 million, this isn't a crazy amount of money for drawing 2 million viewers. I know he has a whole staff too that need to get paid. But this the whole cost of the operation is about as much as the bench of an NBA team. This isn't crazy money. I thought these guys made like 50 million. Guess not. They're like equivalent to a 3 and D basketball player. Weird.

I thought the whole business model of CBS was to have a flagship show that peddled all of their low budget network content. How are they going to get proles to watch their boring cop shows?

One of the variables here is just how old primetime TV viewers now are:

"Of the five networks, Fox had the youngest median age (58.1), with CBS having the oldest (67.8), followed by ABC (65.5), NBC (64.9) and The CW (65.2)."

What 67-year-olds do CBS even have a hope of holding onto in the late night slot? And you can forget about anyone watching Taylor Tomlinson's Gen Z slop.

Americans have gotten older and these shows aren't what they used to be. The AVERAGE age of a CBS viewer is a median Boomer.

Why can't they just make Tim Dillon a host or something and get a bunch of 30 something white males into the fold. Plus their girlfriends will be forced to watch because it's His Choice or she can cry alone and watch Netflix in the other room. Why cancel the show? Just solve the problem. Make a different show. But the idea of a late night host is still cool. Offer Theo Von 20 mil to do it or something. Have Alex Jones and Timothee Chalamet be the guest at the same time. Fuck it.

Men are no longer permitted to become new hosts of shows. Current hosts were grandmothered in.

Larry Ellison's son is buying Paramount Global. New owner is conservative. He can do whatever he wants including hire a white guy. HTH.

They're not gonna do it though they're literally just cancelling the show forever. I have no idea what their business model is.

They should buy the rights to air highlights of the latest Rogan with their own ads spliced in, would easily get more than 2MM viewers.

Only olds watch those shows (and half probably are just falling asleep to TV and not actually watching). Late shows aren’t getting enough 25-50 year old viewers that advertisers really care about. And they never will anymore: everyone our age who is watching a screen at that hour most likely is streaming something on Netflix.

ABC didn't have a late night talk show for a long time. In the 80s-2000s they had Nightline with Ted Koppel instead.

It’s dumb because it hurts morning/primetime ratings too. Boomers are Loyal to Channels. They would’ve done this anyway in 5-10 years but just did it now bc Trump was being a dick
