Who cares how loud the crowd at the event is laughing? Nobody in the TV audience checks in with the crowd before laughing at a joke. There was nothing in the monologue that isn't in like 90% of decent comedians' repertoires. Most jokes were good, because he's a pretty good comedian. Not a single joke was the slightest big shocking; at no point would any reasonable viewer say I can't believe he went there. The most memorable joke was a sort-of-sexist jab at himself, not attacking the audience for repeatedly ignoring rape. The unpopularity of the WNBA has been a punch line for decades and it's much more popular now due to Clark.
