They exist on a scale from "vomit" to "diarrhea" and if you were a first time lentil enjoyer it might be a hard sale

Fantastic once you eat them, atrocious on the eyes

There are many varieties. You don't have to get the brown sludge from Goya. Find a ⚫️ beluga or the French green le puy

I enjoy the greens and they're much firmer (very good in a twist on a Greek avgolemono style soup imo) but I enjoy the texture of the indian/persian/etc daal styled lentil soups as well. It's silty and pleasant and with the right spices and some broth great for a chilly evening or a flu

They just look atrocious in a bowl. There's no way around it. Some garnishes can help but unless you puree them you're getting some kind of excreta looking yellowy thing on your dinner table

Yeah i like flavors of Ethiopian foods but it just looks awful and sharing a table with others rooting through the slop is not something I'm willing to ever do again

Pureeing them doesn’t exactly make them look less like excrement

a lentil mulligatawny looks like wet sand vs an indian daal which looks like the contents of a concert venue toilet

Lentils are great but there is no way to make them look appealing.

I would like discofries to make a lentils dish and poast it.

They’re great when done right but they’re too often bland and dry

I was once making chicken liver pate, and decided wanted to expand the volume, so added about equal part of leftover cooked lentils. Turned out 180.
