so far i think i've gleaned that:

-Humans experience meaning through 'Being in the world' - basically, our personal existence and interactions/experiences are what is real and meaningful, and not the rest of the universe around us (?)

-'Time' only appears to be "real"/salient to us because we are mortal and will eventually die, and thus as mortal beings we perceive time relative to this subjective reality

are these even correct? did he say anything else that's worth figuring out?

he has some things to say about space too that you could probably figure out by analogy from his thoughts on time, but as far as i can tell, you get the majority of it already.

Dasein can only be appreciated by reading the antecedent philosophers from Descartes--Nietzsche and understanding how how significantly his idea of "being" differs from others.

I have not read his corpus and can only appreciate sein und zeit on a superficial level.

For Hegel (and a few others), I could give an incredible answer. Henry Silton Harris's "ladder" series systematically and effectively explains everything abput the phenomenology.

Hegel's lectures about prior philosophers really show how he knows his stuff. If you have experience with Descartes, Aristotle, Plato, Kant, Epictetus and others he's a delight to read.

If you have time, read this short chapter:

https://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/hegel/works/hp/hpintroduction.htm

And no, Hegel was not a Marxist. Marx's philosophy was a projection of a part of Hegel's

i do enjoy hegel's history of philosophy, but you've got to put it in that context of 19th century germanic discovery of vedic literature where they suddenly thought they unlocked the secrets of the ancients and completed the enlightenment

doesn't really seem that complex. what i wrote in my reply to lex is more or less the entirety of his philosophy. basically just another existentialist

Yeah, sort of. Man’s fundamental being is quite inaccessible. It is not that of a detached observer (res cogitans) interacting with objects (res extensa) based on rationale thought. Rationale thought in the sense that conclusions can be reached to address any given situation based on the application of logic-based rules like an enlightenment era thinker might hope. There does exist a state of being of detached observation (e.g. when you regard the res extensa and perhaps even talk to yourself about it in your own head in a dualistic manner) but that is derivative of man’s fundamental state of being. Man’s fundamental state of being is something much more at home in the world, and it does navigate the res extensa but without self reflection. An easy example of this is how you can drive your car for hours and deal with all sorts of objects and adapt and maneuver your car without self reflection. In fact this is even more demonstrable in the sense that you actually start to feel like your car is a part of your body as much as you do your arms. It’s further evidenced by the fact that you can’t verbalize, in the sense of describing a formal set of logic bound rules, how is it that you are able to address the situations that came up on the road as they came up. You have after all never driven that same road at that same time under the same circumstances, and an attempt to derive a set of logic bound rules would ultimately be impossible due to the sheer infinitude of situations you would have to apply different and new rules to. That observation can be extrapolated not only to driving a car but as far as cultural practices and moral systems.

This is a full credit answer. I think you have to have some sense of the empiricism v rationalism debate and get through Hume first. And then you have to digest Hegel and Kant and understand how much Husserl and then Heidegger were responding to/addressing/trying to make their names by critiquing especially Hegel.

i've grown to have a lot of appreciation for heidegger since i made this thread btw. his ideas surrounding mortality and its importance for understanding the human condition are especially significant imo
