On one hand, it shows that he doesn't care about his career much and wouldn't be a good employee. Fundamentally he doesn't care about learning or increasing skills that are valuable to employers or could help his own career.
On the other hand, it shows that he hasn't bought into the winking tuna and won't change his interests/behavior simply because the tuna wants him to.
