in that world he was the master of comedy movies. he was great at doing memorable scenes and *really* catchy lines. that's literally his entire opera man character. and across school yards people were saying "i award you no points" and "the price is wrong, bitch."

maybe you were a precocious kid (re: arrogant nerd.) maybe you were watching monty python or mel brooks. maybe you wore a black knight t-shirt with no arms and legs, and talked like the simpsons book guy, looking down on the other 14 year old boys for their juvenile interests. and then one day you watched the holy grail again and realized you only liked the slapstick and snored through the smart dry humoe. and then watched life of brian and realized you thought it wasnt great because you didn't get it at the time and there's too much talking.

saying adam sandler sucks is like saying ninja turtles or pokemon sucks. you might as well say barneys message of friendship is saceine and superficial. these aren't for you.

and now you've missed out some cultural touchstones. when some guys are sitting around loling at "get in the hole!" you'll internally mutter "how droll." nevermind the fact that for 20 yeaea you've moderated a forum where the pinnacle of wit is puerile stuff like "im gay" or a Halfordian number. because you're taking it too seriously and not allowing yourselt to enjoy some mindless lowbrow fun. and you were taking yourself to seriously then, too. which is more than a little sad, and it got you was not being able to reminisce about being on the playground, loving life, not checking commas, and roaring laughing when you friends crosses his eyes and says "get out of here swan!"

i used to instal people's a/v stuff for cash when that came out on dvd. one time i was explaining to this elderly couple how to work things and asked the wife to put in a dvd to have her learn by doing, and she put in old school.

the dvd title screen includes a loop of some of the movies more memorable moments, including the two girls taking their tops off. so there i am explaining how to use picture-in-picture and that the HD channel is different than the channel they're used to and every fiften seconds to uproar emanating from the brand new surround sound system.

the couple began to visibly wince every time the scene came on, but they dutifully listened to my spiel about how the receiver being on analog input isnt surround sound and to make sure theyre on the optical connection. of course im loling internally and putting on my then-unknown Nathan Fielder impression, pretending nothing is unusually. eventually the chinese water torture of being forced to listen to explain plasma burn in and not to leave 4:3 on bedause the black bars would be noticeably brighter than the center in widescreen when finally broke the wife and she made a mad dash to shut off the dvd player while spouting a punctionless gift of apologies and excuses

I also believe it was mentioned in the Sony email leaks when North Korea hacked them over the Seth Rogan movie about Kim Jong Un. There was some back and forth between the executives about how bad it sucked but the consensus was that Sandler was a cash cow that kept the lights on and made everyone money despite decades of unwatchable dreck. What you're calling Hollywood accounting is just a shift towards overseas markets. They stopped caring whether these movies made money domestically because they were selling so well overseas. If anything Happy Gilmore 2 will appeal much more to domestic market. Can't see it really being big in China and Brazil but what do I know.

His movies are massively successful. David Spade was talking on a podcast about how Sandler is difficult to work with sometimes because he has such a specific vision in his head.

But then he's just like - I'm going to cast Travis Kelce in this comedy movie. Or even though Kevin James loves working with him- he just casts Rex Ryan. I think Bad Bunny is in this movie too.
