Lawfirmmos are used to being bossed around and treated like trash by their clients. And they normally happily bend over and take it.
But when the "client" bossing them around is another lawyer, often one who makes much less money and/or is less prestigious, it bothers the law firmmo to have to bend over and get fucked in the ass with a smile. |

In-house people are overwhelmingly happy we no longer bill hours but we have to keep law firm lawyers from running up the bill by putting 4+ people on calls or letting people pad hours. Otherwise, we pay you money to do specific work. You never actually talk to our clients except in a few limited litigation scenarios, so it isn't like we're worried that you'll somehow upstage us. Our jobs have remarkably little in common.
Every once in a while you'll see an in-house lawyer go to a firm but it is a once in a blue moon event. 99% of in-house lawyers are thrilled that they're in-house and not biglaw. |

I provided concrete evidence that we're happy with our choices (if we weren't, law firms would be flooded with resumes from in-house lawyers, which they're not). In general, people that choose to have actual work-life balance and spend time with their family and friends and have irl hobbies are objectively "better people" than people who live to bill so they can maximize their shekels. That said, we're all lawyers and therefore we're all objectively shitty people.

I think it is the biglaw culture. Everything at firms is some dick measuring contest. "I billed X hours! I'm a ROCKSTAR!" People who act like that in-house get told to curb their enthusiasm and if they don't they get sent packing. Ultimately, biglaw people are just miserable people trying to act cheerful. Ergo, thread like this. And to my earlier point about preferring people already in-house? Yes, this cultural disparity is one reason for that. |

Some people choose to live under a bridge. Inhousemos make way more than the average American. And they enjoy a better quality of life. If you are determined to make as much money as possible and work a lot more, that's a choice too. It's a free country. But I have no idea why you would think that makes you so much better than somebody who does the same job for less and has a radically improved work-life balance. |
