The old aristocracy + working class had a codependency that prioritized an identity that included faith and tradition and cultural resonance. The middle classes destroyed it. Europe is a good example of self destruction through middle class liberalism unrestrained by aristocratic or working class restraint that understood the real value of cultural identity.
Even WWI is connected to this theory as it marked the end of aristocratic rule, leaving behind mediocre middle class leaders to reshape the continent. The working classes kept the middle class under control in the postwar years, but by the 70s the middle class were becoming the majority and the working class influence faded, sharply in the 1990s. And unrestrained by both forces, just see how the continent has changed so quickly in such a short time period. As someone commented to me, both the old aristocracy and the old working classes would have had no problems turning the guns on the migrant boats. |
