he wakes up one morning at 7am after getting home close to 2 the previous night. he doesn't have to be at work until 10am but he's giddy, he can't help himself. his long suffering girlfriend groans and rolls over. he puts on his suit, newly dry-cleaned, and his favorite shirt, freshly pressed, and spends the next hour picking out the perfect tie. because today, you see, today is the day that the old man announces the identity of the new partner.

needless to say, at about 11:00am Chester walks into a room with the rest of the firm and smiles at the sight of a huge spread of danishes, bagels and lox, eggs and biscuits. the old man gets up and raps on his bellini glass a few times to quiet the conversation. as he prepares to announce the name of the new partner, chester is already halfway out of his chair. finally, the reward for his years of dedication, his years of hard work.

and of course rsf blows in, in shades, cargo shorts and a haiwaiian shirt, sunburnt and hungover, trailing a giggling eastern european knockout who doesn't appear to speak much english. his dad gives a short speech as rsf goes to town on the danishes. as his dad's speech winds to a close, he straightens up, wipes the crumbs away, waves to the assembled firm, punches Chester on the shoulder and loudly greets him as 'Chuck', and disappears out the door to catch his 2:15 to st. tropez. a couple of bear claws fall out of the pocket of his cargo pants and bounce along the floor, rolling to a stop at chester's feet.

rsf's dad has the caterers break down the table setting. he doesn't notice that some of the silverware at svetlana's table setting has gone missing. next time he e-mails Chester a redlined brief he'll inadvertently refer to him as "Chuck".
