Cue that video of the guy talking about if EVs had been available first, how stupid you would look trying to sell people a car that runs on mini explosions, is super loud, has 4,000 working parts, needs constant oil, and can't be refueled at home.

The Tesla Model Y was confirmed as the world's best-selling passenger vehicle for three consecutive years (2023, 2024, and 2025). It secured top status in major markets including China, the US, and across Europe, with over 4 million cumulative sales, marking a milestone as the first EV to top global sales.

Global Fleet

Key Markets Where Model Y is Top-Selling:

Global: Confirmed as the #1 passenger vehicle in 2023, 2024, and 2025, according to data from JATO Dynamics, Statista, and Focus2Move.

China: Was the best-selling vehicle in 2023 and maintained strong sales in 2024.

Europe: Secured the spot as Europe's best-selling car for the full year 2023.

Great counterargument, "hung stud". Except that's not what I said, I specifically said "oil dependence". The point is it reduces dependence on one singular resource.

I have driven a couple of Toyota Hybrid SUVs and they're OK, Toyota is a good and sensible manufacturer, and they have chosen to eschew fully electric vehicles in favor of hybrids

all the EVs and all the other hybrids need to GTFO

EVs depreciate faster than laptop computers. Three years after you buy them they’re obsolete. I can maybe understand leasing one but you’d have to be a financial retard to buy one.

you're definitely right about the massive depreciation.

but i think there are deals to be found in buying 2-3 year old EVs or PHEVs and owning for a few years. someone else is taking the massive initial depreciation hit and you can own a fairly new vehicle (perhaps even under manufacturer's warranty) that costs very little to operate. (this assumes you can charge cheaply via solar or utility subsidies.)
