In 1st grade there was a weird poor kid who smelled like piss who had a taped square around his desk that nobody was allowed to enter, I think cause he had head lice, idk the memory is foggy. Anyway he was the only WCW fan i knew and he had a Lex Luger lunch box. My childhood memories of WCW was seeing half empty arenas full of folding chairs on TBS and it seemed poor AF and lame compared to WWF which our grandpa bought every ppv of for us. WWF was a highbrow UMC wrestling federation compared to WCW and had prestigious college educated wrestlers like IRS, The Genius, and Ted DeBiasie who was a millionaire which was a lot back then before NAFTA and libs

I came back in the attitude era and I'd switch to nitro during commercials and some random beaner in a mask was doing backflips or the nWO was cutting a promo for 40 minutes with dozens of wrestlers in the ring standing there doing nothing, and they also had a roster of like 500 wrestlers somehow. Raw would be like 90 mins of jobbers and women showing their buts in thongs then stone cold or the rock would have an amazing segment at the end

very accurate.

i wish someone would make a website that would play both raw and nitro as aired in real-time with commercials and let you switch back and forth.

back in the late 90s, it was the "forbidden" scumbag league. Crappy production style, literal brawls amongst the meathead fans in the crowd, etc. Lots of IRL blood (Sabu, Rhino). I read on the internet at the time that fans loved it, and they had several stars that eventually crossed over to WWF (Robb Van Damme etc), but i rarely watched it.

I do recall some hilarious matches between spike dudley and Mike Awesome (aka skinny dork vs huge roided dude) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mCySce7TTOs

In retrosepct Spike Dudley was hardcore as fuck. his only job was getting his fucking ass thrown all over the place

You are right. I only watched wwf as a kid. Knew some single parent apartment kids with literal mullets (And this was in umc part of atlanta where mullets were not common) who would talk anout how awesome sting and lex luger were but honestly i had no idea who they were and felt a little ignorant but i simply never watched wcw. It was like talking to indie music autists who name bands that you never heard of and you just have to nod along

Then wcw had a period where it was actually better. I guess around the goldberg and nwo era

But then like op said you would always have to switch to the last 20 minutes or so of wwf because of some awesome rock or stone cold segment.

Eventually wcw got super lame and boring again too

when i first tried watching wcw i remember thinking it looked shitty but it must be legit because i knew i'd heard all kinds of people talk about "sting" at some point

he was champ at the time iirc so i figured he was such a huge deal even olds, teachers etc knew about him. lol

yep Sting. Like I knew who he was but I never got into him because he was popular before I ever watched WCW. I always thought that his "The Crow" getup was lame as hell

Also not gonna lie, Rick Flair was in the same boat - like I had always heard of him, but never knew his work, and by the time I started watching WCW he was a fat old guy that everybody loved and was kinda shitty in the ring but I never really understood his charm until much later.
