It’s looking more and more like we’ll be at war with these fuckers in the next 5-7 years

Crq

It will be insane not to be armed 24/7 even at home - not unrealistic to imagine a humanoid doing all the house chores and it just turns around and starts blasting at you while you’re on the sofa scrolling and watching slop

machines don't have 'vital organs' in the same way as people. if they have 'limbs,' then something like buckshot or even birdshot might serve to impact and damage the surfaces it uses to control itself more quickly and effectively than individual bullets.

but the real solution might be something like a spray-blast of hot glue that jams it up, smears all over its sensors, etc.

depending on how the thing gathers environmental information, literally just dumping a bunch of dark ink on it might cause it to fail. a dark and heavy blanket, etc.

civilian drones sold in the US have shutdown modules. you'd have to build your own variant while avoiding a lot of off-the-shelf components with killswitches embedded within.

Sci fi has incorrectly given people the idea that we could win a war against AI. A single consumer GPU can in a matter of a few weeks learn how to beat any human player at Go starting from scratch. Stockfish on a phone will trash any human at chess. Now imagine a multiexaflop supercomputing cluster doing mental simulations of how to defeat humanity. It has read vastly more than any human and knows exactly what moves we are likely to make. Whatever plan or weapons we have won’t matter.

Sure, but a superhuman intelligence could rapidly proliferate on the internet either through hacking or paying for server access. How realistic is it that we could shut down all the systems powering it? You could probably run an AGI on a consumer GPU if you are willing to swap weights in and and out of GPU memory. From there, how long do you think it would be before the system found a way to get a foothold in the physical world? All it would need is a few compliant humans who could be influenced by different motivations - monetary, psychological pressure, desire to bring about a superior intelligence, etc. there are many possible failure points.

Sure, it’ll have all kinds of “book smarts”, but it’s still just a machine and it will never have the creativity and know-how that comes from years of hard work and experience. A few good country old timers, the kind with real grit and gumption that the young people these days just don’t seem to have, they’d come up with some “so crazy it just might work” hair-brained idea and have your “super” computer spinnin’ in circles!
