I think influencer is a misnomer. It's a marketing term these people came up with for themselves. They don't really influence anything (livvy didn't make Gucci popular by wearing their bag). There was probably a time when some internet celebrities did do some taste making, and the idea was companies desperately wanted to be associated with them as they were driving culture.
But nowadays I'd say these people are more like Attention Grabbers. They grab headlines, they divert the public consciousness towards themselves. I wouldn't call it influence. If anything it's diversion. In the attention economy, an ass shot and a cartwheel can divert someone to their page. OK, now what? Now you need to convert. With Taylor you can divert them to Spotify where one way or another they're paying for the content. That's one method. A billion streams is worth a few million dollars.

They really have to do something about all the non-competitive franchises. Judge in New York is doing just fine. No one who cares about Livvy cares about baseball. No female Livvy fans are going to watch a Pirates game. Die hard baseball fans won't even watch a Pirates game.
Baseballs problems have nothing to do with her, and she can't fix em. Skenes unless he's retarded will go somewhere else eventually and win a world series. They usually do. |
