Let’s be clear: a robot is not your “Shabbos goy.” That category belongs to an actual non-Jewish human, not a glorified vacuum with Wi-Fi. Halachically, the bot is your hammer; if your words or presence make it swing, the swing is yours. No clever phrasing or coy “hints” to silicon changes that.

The sane way forward is painfully simple. Do your setup before Shabbos, lock it in, and then keep your fingers—and your voice—off the controls. Timers and schedules you arranged beforehand may run; your mid-Shabbos whim may not. Most of these gizmos are functionally muktzeh anyway, so quit fussing with them unless there’s a permitted need.

If you insist on “smart” behavior, earn it. Build a real Shabbos mode: inputs get dropped or queued for after Shabbos; motion and voice triggers are neutered; the system acts on fixed schedules, not on you. For genuine needs (elder-care, safety), use tightly-fenced grama: delayed, state-driven actions that would have happened without your nudge. Not a lifestyle hack—an exception. And yes, emergency is emergency: pikuach nefesh blows past the rest.

Please stop with the cute workarounds. Voice assistants that jump when you speak? Off. Lights that wake up when you walk by? Off. Cooking and carrying rules don’t disappear because a robot did the stirring or the schlepping. Public spectacle—your bot obviously working “for you now”—is the wrong look and the wrong halacha.

If you’re engineering this, act like it. Time-based, automatic lock-in before candle-lighting; read-only displays; randomized delays for the rare grama case; and ironclad “causality walls” so your Shabbos action never becomes a necessary condition for melacha. Log it all append-only and save the heroics for Motza’ei Shabbos.

Bottom line: treat robots as electricity on wheels, not honorary gentiles. Pre-program, lock down, and leave it alone. Anything more exotic—ask your rabbi and be honest about what’s convenience and what’s necessity.

It would be the same as having a light bulb on prior to the rules kicking in, though.

Highly CR line of reasoning. Would just have to phrase all commands to the bot as requests. "Would you mind making the soup?" etc.

with AGI, the robot could sense your every need/desire and respond accordingly.

I can hardly be held responsible if the AGI decides it's time for a blowjob and beer
