The Japanese government forbade Isuzu from making passenger cars for decades. Eventually they were granted permission to put a few passenger cars on the market, but only a few. They had to borrow the v6 engine design from GM because I guess Isuzu never made a V6 before?

Yamaha was also only ever permitted to make one fucking car engine, the V6 in the Taurus SHO. The Japanese government told them they could do marine engines and motorcycles only, no cars, but then they got permission to put a geek squad on this v6 engine for Ford. Shoulda just let them make cars!

Cars pretty much peaked around 2012-2014 once the japs fully forced everyone else to get their shit together mechanically and right before Obama's faggy emissions requirements full took hold and before every car company started with the iphone model of loading it with useless tech that would inevitably break and force ppl to buy new cars every couple of years

Peak car was the early 80s Mercedes Benz with the five cylinder turbo diesel.

Honorable mention mid 91-95 Porsche 964/993 (early 91 and older 964 have cylinder head sealing issues and 96-98 have SAI fouling which throws a check engine light and won’t pass emissions although it’s not an actual problem).

Anything Toyota/lexus from 89-when they put turbos on them minus the rav4 with the oil consumption issue and all the trucks/SUV with frame rust issues and the 3.0 V6 in the 4Runner (V8, 3.4, and 4.0 are all excellent).

Anything with the GM 3800 V6 drivetrain was solid and dirt cheap to fix like $20 for a water pump in stock cheap to fix. I am convinced they stopped making the engine because they would not die.
