Using Federal Reserve Survey of Consumer Finances data adjusted for inflation, median net worth for people aged 35–44 was:
Boomers (1995): about $101k
Gen X (2013): about $60k
Early Millennials (2022): about $135k
That means Gen X households in their late 30s/early 40s were roughly 41% poorer than Boomers at the same age.
And the really dark part is that early Millennials, buoyed by post-COVID asset inflation and housing appreciation, actually surpassed Gen X’s equivalent-age wealth numbers in the Fed data.
