Pretty comparable firms. Although Paul Weiss has a bigger presence in New York.

Comparable, unless you want to make more money, make partner earlier, and have control over your work, in which case you should go to Kirkland.

-by "partner" you mean nonequity at Kirkland. Time to equity partnership is shorter at PW (~8-9 years) compared to 10-14 at KE

-money is (on average) a wash given KE's lower bonuses ITE

huh? if you billed 2000 last year, you got a market bonus. for every hundred hours over, you got 1000$ more. how were hte bonuses lower? if you billed btw 1900-2000, you got a little lower than market.

how does that make money a wash????

a. in 2008 and 2009, hitting 2000 wasn't easy in many practice groups

b. KE bonuses aren't based solely on hours

c. The actual "bump up" for going over 2000 wasn't that high. Pre-ITE, hitting e.g. 2400 hours would mean an extra 20-50k depending on class year and quality of work. I've heard from many sources (including associates at KE) that ITE, it's more like a 5-10k extra. An extra 5-10k for an extra ~400 hrs billed isn't much and not worth it in itself; it may be worth it for staying on partnership track and avoiding being stealthed

don't worry about partnership track...it's like worrying about where you're going to build your vacation house on mars

kirkland, as long as you're willing/able to source your own work.

Paul Weiss NY has laid off first years and second years.

It was stealth, obviously, but it happened
