would the answer change if you subbed patterson for quinn? if so, why? they present themselves in a pretty similar fashion. |

The only thing I'd find out more about from the esteemed xoxo community is exit opps out of Patterson/Boies/Quinn compared to the V10. Consensus I think is that the V10 gives you better exit options, but if you're getting some great experience at one of the smaller firms then I don't know. |

don't buy the marketing about "meaningful" work. my friend in NY was stuck on a massive doc review project. i didn't see her in months and finally i ran into her at the gym on a sunday and she said this was the first wknd she had off in about 3 months. the bottom line is that any place that does massive, high-profile litigation means most of the work is going to be grunt work. quinn is also cheap as FUCK. you have to bill 2100 to get a bonus at all.
i don't know much about patterson but i assume they probably do smaller, lower-stakes cases where they staff more leanly, which often translate into better work and more responsibility for juniors. i do think it probably won't give you as much lateral power as at a quinn/boies or v10-type firm though, if you care about that sort of thing.
as for boies, they pay the best $$$$$ outside wachtell. you get in bonus 1/3 of every hour you bill over 2200 at your hourly rate. my friend who is a 5th year there got a $100k in 2009, which is ridic given the nature of the economy. you will work hard there, no question, but it'll be the same # of hours as at quinn, and you'll be compensated very well for it. |

re: boies - ugh, not sure i want to work that many hours. not a huge $ whore. i think i'd be fine taking the 160+small bonus and running at patterson. lack of exit ops kinda worries me, but fuck it, i can't be constantly living for 5 years from now. |
