Those two games stood alone for years before anyone else did shit like that. GoldenEye whatever, the total# of players was 0.00002% what Doom commanded. Think about this: why does every FPS have a shotgun with the same characteristics as the super shotgun in Doom 2? Because Doom 2 players demanded it. A lot of people don't even remember that the shotgun in the original Doom was single barrel, i.e. this was a franchise that continued to innovate with each release, with devastating consequences for the industry.
Exhibit A is any Metroid Prime game. Countless years were spent developing what could have been normal Metroid games. Look at the new one that just came out.
Look at every other shittastic series you hate and never want to play again: Fallout, Far Cry, Assassins Creed, Crysis, Halo, CoD, Battlefield, all these SHIT PURE SHIT franchises you hate: what do they all have in common? |
