Kate and Andy co-founded Kate Spade New York, along with Elyce Arons and Pamela Bell, in January 1993.[8] Spade was initially undecided on the brand's name, because Andy and she had not yet married, and "Kate Brosnahan" seemed a cumbersome name for a fashion label. She considered a number of names, but agreed when Andy suggested "Kate Spade", as she would take the name Spade after their marriage.[9]

Kind of explains a lot IMO. The failure of a marriage is always going to be a mindfuck. But in this case it's even more of a mindfuck. Your massive success in this life is only due to this person who you don't even really like all that much. Maybe you wouldn't have married them at all but for the fact that the business was taking off and you essentially already took their name.
Combine all that with the fact that she exited the business in 2006...
I kinda get it. By 2018 you're not a businesswoman and you haven't been for years. You're a wife to a guy you don't really like and haven't for a long time. And you're a mom to a teenage girl, and teens pretty famously don't really get along with their parents.
