It's fine humanity is going to turn into some unrecognizable race of neuralinked crispr chad von neumanns within 100 years anyway and our petty concerns will seem quaint and whimsical to them.

Some people will be that and the rest will be their slaves. The technocratic elite will have even more power over the masses as they'll have literally transcended humanity. They'll keep enough of us alive to continue competing for who's best at Capitalism. We'll just be plugged into our VR machines being harvested for data and advertised to. I could go on and on about the dystopia in my head that seems increasingly inevitable.

That's how it might start due to costs but eventually it's going to be everyone. Which group of people wins: the ones controlling a bunch of drooling idiots or the entire race of superdoods.

Every Gen in the history of humanity has thought they are special/doomed/living in the end times and we've managed to not kill ourselves so far. Of course at some point there will probably be a global nuclear holocaust or whatever but that will pass too, and in any case best you can do is your small part to live a good life.

I understand that every generation has thought they were uniquely damned, but maybe they all were. Maybe things just keep getting exponentially worse.

Totally agree about living a good life. Also, I'm politically involved so I'm even trying to do something about the direction of things. But I'm just really pessimistic about where things are going. Is this what blackpilled is?

The more unbelievably easy our lives are the more comparatively devastating even modest injustices seem. I'm probably not gonna have a job in a few years but I'd still take modernity over being buttfucked by Mongols who chop off my dick and use it as a straw or four decades of backbreaking labor farming potatoes for my feudal lord or whatever. Europe used to basically kill 25% of its entire population every 100 years in war, every couple hundred years like half of China would die in a civil war, etc. Going all the way back to the dawn of humanity in many societies the most common cause of death was someone else bashing their skull in. But some people saw total chaos around them and decided to build a library or find God or measure how many pubes can fit in a turtle shell and that's who we should aspire to be

The real immediate concern I think is that the West is totally listless when it doesn't have religion. We were built on Christianity for 2000k years and now on a societal level that's vaporized within the span of post-WWII. At worst people are entirely self interested and at best they prioritize their family, but that is still very narrowly self interested compared to how society used to function even in the recent past.

Well I've never denied that we have way better/easier lives than people in past eras. But on a fundamental level the species is going downhill rapidly. Technocrats/war profiteers/oligarchs are killing us all.

Once we achieve this form we realize that "doing things" is ttt. The ultimate post-human activity might just be pure contemplation—chilling in a high fidelity simulation of the Paleolithic, sitting by a perfect digital fire and laughing at the version of yourself that thought the upgrade was going to be a lot more exciting than it turned out to be

My "whitepill" for all of this stuff is basically that humanity's population exploded unnaturally in response to the discovery of fossil fuels. Especially oil an natural gas which allow for far more food production (and transport) than would otherwise be possible. We basically passed our "carrying capacity" and have been dealing with the consequences of this since the mid-2000s when conventional oil in the middle east peaked.

Our financial system is also more-or-less entirely predicated on growth in the energy supply. And while it continues to grow from a total perspective, it has not grown enough from a per capita perspective. So you have major world powers basically beefing with one another because there isn't enough of the key energy supplies to go around. Particularly heavier oil that is used for diesel and jet fuel.

Various shortages have led to spikes in energy prices which in turn has led to an increase in the debt bubble. This in turn has made it harder to grow because more and more productivity must be used to manage the debt.

Advancements in technology have been in part a reaction to this (if not consciously, but because of incentives.) And these advancements in technology have made life seem easier, even while it is actually becoming harder in a sense to make the system work as a whole.

I think people understand this, at least at a subconscious level. And that is why there is a great malaise. We are effectively all forced to serve a machine that does not work because it is built around an aberration (from a population and energy supply perspective.)

It sounds like a dismal blackpill, but I think things will actually be better in 20 - 30 years. It's just that going through a population bottleneck will not be fun given the way the financial system works. Elites are trying to manage this (directly and indirectly). And as a byproduct, the elite class has attracted some real scumbags for the most part.

NP. The other thing to note is that all of this is exacerbated by the evil that is money printing. The fact that we can continuously print money (an ability that is magnified by the petrodollar system) means that we don't ever actually deal with underlying reality. We just paper over issues in a literal sense.

Absolutely. And aside from a few bones they've thrown us like the COVID checks, they're printing it for things that benefit a small group at the expense of everyday working people. As Tupac said, "They got money for wars but can't feed the poor."

I was there a 3-4 years ago. And I'd still believe that if you take humanity as a whole, weighing everyone equally, people are ultimately good. But if you consider how much power each individual has to determine the trajectory of the world, the calculus changes drastically. It's so clear that we're fucked as a species because of who has power and what they're doing with it.

I strongly recommend taking some steps to shield yourself mentally from the ills of the the outside world and the things you don't control and focus on how you can have the best life possible and not be brought down by things all the time. Over 99.99999% of things that happen are beyond our control. We can't fret about it all day. I know you get really emotional and sensitive about Bad Things that happen and the Evil Doers who perpetrate it. But this is not your best use of time imo. You need to put in some effort to seeing the glass half full. Like yeah the world isn't perfect. When I was a kid I used to cry about people starving in Africa. But you gotta grow out of it and move on. Control the things you can control. Maybe the world isn't as bad as you think. There's still a lot of good shit out there.

That's probably the only way we make it more than a few more generations, yeah. But then won't it all just happen again?

Also, I really hope we preserve enough knowledge in non-electronic form that we don't have to start over too far in the past if all electronics get fucked by an EMP or some kind of interference. But I also don't want us to pick up where we left off technologically (or socially) because that's probably too late, even assuming a decent amount of history is recorded/passed on about why everything went wrong.
