Also it's not a terribly computationally expensive process. They get supplied a DB of hashes of known CP files. All they have to do is hash the files on their own service and see if any of them match.

i have some knowledge of what is probably the biggest CP investigation of all time. Were talking about years and the involvement of everyone from FBI/NSA/CIA to Interpol to agencies in other countries, etc.

Nobody could get into the internet board. They had enough opsec in place that it was too hard to fake it. The board/ring revolved around people providing their own supply. If someone stopped uploading they were out.

Eventually law enforcement got access by other means than trying to get in the front door with an agent....and engaged in what i believe was legally and ethically questionable actions of sticking around for years, uploading and downloading CP.

In the end the case was wrapped up with the majority of players still unknown. Opsec was too good and the head guy literally posted elsewhere on the internet that nobody could touch him even though they infiltrated the group and were exchanging CP with him for years. and he turned out to be right. case closed and he was free bc we the people werent even close on him

This press release was issued the same morning that they served the search warrant on the guy. That's obviously not enough time to do any sort of analysis at all on the drives. And note the verbiage used: "Several electronic devices were seized which contained approximately 58 Terabytes of data related to child pornography"

"In addition to the laptop, Belden owned a tower containing 15 hard drives, totaling 57 TB of storage."

The dude still had a LOT of CP, but he didn't have 58TB of it.
