My grandparents had a large house on a few acres that was pretty scary at times. I remember one day when I was there alone for some reason and I was terrified to go downstairs. Every little sound was an intruder, a wild animal, or something else to be frightened of.

Yes, but I have a dog, so except in unusual circumstances, no one is ever home alone. I worry about my boomer parents alone in their mcmansion, but again, they have dogs to keep them company and safe.
