in your hypo, they STILL involve two guards in their conspiracy, PLUS whatever they needed to do to interrupt two cameras (which probably necessarily involved another handful of people).
Tons of fucking risk that someone leaks or cracks.
Why even bother with cameras? they will only show a suicide, exactly what you'd want.

he probably felt pretty invincible. He already got popped once, and did his "prison" time from a special room in the jail with an office set up with computer and phone, and got to go HOME for nights and weekends. Basically the jail made him an office for 12 months or whatever.
Very natural he would think his ass was fully protected.
When he got popped again, he probably was surprised not to get right out, and didnt have the means to reach his evidence. Whats more, he was probably sitting on it and using it until the moment he was murdered. He didnt count on that. |
