I remember when this album first came out, everyone was excited for it, but a lot of people hated it. I loved it though and still do. It's such a trip. I kinda think Goliath doesn't hold up as well now that it's been 15+ years since its release. Don't get me wrong, the songs on Goliath are great, but there's something about the totality of the album that drops it compared to the others.

I agree and I’ve thought about it at length and it’s because Tom Pridgen is a literal fucking spastic nigger with zero pocket and couldn’t hold Jon Theodore’s drumstick on his best day

you're probably right.

Agadez, for instance, is one of the better songs on Goliath and it probably would have been even better if Pridgen wasn't going fucking nuts on the drums. Ouroboros is also clutch.

the first 5 tracks on Goliath are as good as it gets, but yes it's almost impossible to listen through. I mostly skip to the jam part on Askepios then move on

I think it's a case where Omar is one of these people who has no idea if the things he makes are good or bad but he always has a burning idea of what to do. So it comes across as very deliberate but not often very tasteful. Somehow only deloused has proper songwriting and then it devolved into this sort of random insanity very quickly. It's not bad but not what anyone would necessarily call good.

It's like the alt rock version of Opeth which I find unlistenable due to the lack of hooks
