depends of course. i lived in a place like that for a few years and it was very credited. bunch of parks/trails etc that i liked, the specific "microclimate" i prefer and some other things i wouldnt have found in just any comparable burb somewhere else

and yet as much as i liked it i moved out when my kids got a little older and dont regret it at all

Can be shitty older suburbs with crappy shoebox houses. Can be awesome older suburbs with great housing stock and excellent schools and rapid links to downtown and established parks and commercial corridors. If the latter, probably the best places to live for anyone who isn't a billionaire.
