The layoffs now make headlines but AMZN’s headcount has doubled since 2019 and others are similar. Also a lot of managers are just Losers who get fooled into doing multiple jobs at once including managing a bunch of people. I don’t think there are people who just sit around and manage like 7 direct reports all day who they also only talk to like once every 2.5 weeks like in the boomer days.
As for AI it will be blamed for layoffs while contributing nothing to layoffs. Jobs will go to India or just cut generally. Someone needs to demonstrate a proof of concept with this stuff.

Not as much as media is spinning it. Some losers. As there always are with every layoffs/new innovation. From what I can tell with my own corp, AI is creating additional work for people, not making things easier. Or rather, AI is making some things easier and can be amazing for certain functions, but it also tempts people into creating a lot of unnecessary busywork that somehow becomes an integral part of the job.
I thankfully sit above all this but it's fun to watch.
