yeah, very short sighted not to waste hundreds of billions more dollars on a product that customers have refused to buy even with decades of huge government subsidies and immense promotion
there is a trillion dollar bill laying on the street, go pick it up! everyone is stupid except you!

EVs hit the market in like the last 5-7 years fag. get real.
Also the issue isn't the product, its the infrastructure. Where the infrastructure exists, people buy more EVs. Simple.
But ya, cant really buy an EV right now in USA, not due to the EVs themselves, but do to the lack of public infrastructure.

Objectively, EV's are far superior to ICE cars. This is not really a debatable proposition. They offer far more features and require far less maintenance. The fact that they are cleaner is a nice bonus.
EV's have two main problems, in my opinion. The first is lack of charging infrastructure. That is mostly fixed these days. Going on a road trip in an EV was a dicey proposition as recently as a few years ago, but it's easy today. But there still needs to be better slow charging infrastructure in cities, particularly for people who live in apartments and can't charge at home. But the infrastructure is improving rapidly.
The other big issue is cost. Even with subsidies, EV's were not cost competitive with ICE cars until very recently. Even today, EV's are slightly more expensive, although the monthly cost usually turns out to be cheaper once you factor in lower gas/maintenance costs. But ICE cars are not getting any cheaper whereas the cost of EV's is dropping rapidly. The battery is the most expensive part of an EV, and lithium ion battery prices have been dropping by about 8% per year. Today, the cost of an EV battery is about the same as the cost of an internal combustion engine. It will be much cheaper within 2-3 years. So, it is likely that soon EV's will be cheaper to manufacture than ICE cars, which means the prices at dealers should also be cheaper.
It's a tough spot for car manufacturers. No one really questions that EV's are the technology of the future. But the current demand is tepid. If they spend too much on EV's, they risk losing a ton of money in the short term. But if they don't, they will be bankrupt in a few years when cheap Chinese EV's flood the country and they can't compete. Ford may have scaled back their current EV operations, but they remain committed to creating their $30,000 electric truck in a few years. And the survival of their company may depend on its success.

"Objectively they are superior!"
Except, as you note, when you consider cost... or the ability to fuel it... or the dozen other things that are actually the key criteria for regular people when they purchase a car.
Which is why no one wants them. But autistic retards would really like it if someone forced folks to buy them anyway.

It's amazing how much EVs have fallen off. They're a much better and more convenient product. I go to the "gas station" for a charge like 4 times a year on trips.
But somehow Biden spent billions to build no charging network and make EVs less popular.

I love my EV SUV.
The market's downturn just means I"ll be able to get a great deal on an SUV when my Lease is up.

Not sure that’s true. Google AI says Tesla computing consumes 100 watts or less. That’s not much, but even if it’s grossly low you can have a big ass alternator on an ICE if you need it. Engineering is different, but it should be feasible. Musk claims he has offered to license full self driving but has had no takers. Traditional car manufacturers are very slow to change. I tried to broker an automotive GPS deal between a major Japanese company and a big US automotive supplier in the 80s. Was pretty much tarred and feathered by the US company. Except for Tesla it’s a very stodgy and inbred business.
