Waitress insanely accused me of abducting my kid. She rudely asked me what our situation was and I said “this is my kid and we are out to dinner” and she stormed off and turned around and said really loud, “I KNOW that’s not your kid and I hope you aren’t doing what I think” and she went to a corner and started videoing me with her cell.
I was stunned, my kid was stunned.
I got up and yelled at her and then we left. My kid cried in the car a little bit and I tried to calm myself down so as to be able to speak with him and minimize trauma for him.
Man I used to love that place.

He's a very peculiar poster, who clearly relishes the hullabaloo around the notorious accusations that hound him on xo. Imagine simultaneously wanting to shed that accusation and at the same time pumping the board full of an IRL story centering on that accusation.
I fell for his schtick many times, trying to give sincere and practical advice as to how to extinguish that stuff. And then I was bewildered when he would fuel it further.
I guess it's his niche, because he goes out of his way to keep it alive.

The second was after I emailed management and then spoke with management pending their investigation.
The third was to report "suspension" of waitress and nice free meal for family at another restaurant owned by the owner.
I may have had to clarify misunderstandings here and there but those were not my OP.
As for the xo storyline, yeah, I hate it too. Almost everyone here does. |

Hopefully Id use it as an opp to tell my kid "she was worried about you. There are bad men in the world, who hurt kids, and good adults are always on the lookout, tho sometimes we get it wrong."
She didnt call the police, she didnt alert other diners, she didnt send over a bruiser. She asked enough questions to calm her conscience.
If your son's soccer coach had him in a bar, taking advantage of your kid's naivety, I imagine you'd praise to high heaven some waitress who dug a little, saw distress in your kid's face, and did in fact call the cops or photo a license plate, etc. |

She did actually speak with other diners up at the bar during the course of my dinner, apparently "investigating" me. They told her I am a regular there, and a nice guy. And they specifically told her to let her ideation go, to forget about it. (This was relayed to me by the manager during our first call.)
It was after the meal, when she presented me with a check that she asked what the deal was. I don't honestly recall the exact phrasing but it was something like, "So how do you know him" or something like that. Irritated but assuming she was just country, I told her this was my son and we are having dinner. Instead of accepting this, like a normal person would in the scenario you've described, she stood there with a doubtful look on her face and would not leave. Doubly irritated, I repeated what I said. She then turned around to leave when she yelled what she did.
So she actually did check it out with other people who knew me, and refused to take to heart what they told her, and she did do a fair if rude inquiry of me directly, and I answered her question appropriately, and then her mental problem was so strong she couldnt resist saying what she did. That's why she's fired.
As for explaining to my kid, I agree with you except that if she were genuinely concerned in the way that you've described she would not have yelled, "I KNOW that's not your kid ...." after I explained Twice, that this was my kid. That's not what you say in front of an adopted kid if you have even the remotest speck of sense or consideration for the kid himself.
Prease revise in non-autistical fashion.

It's a reminder that people see in terms of race, and that in some real way, you arent his dad. Those are harsh reminders when youre young, but when you adopted a child of a different race, I imagine you anticipated all of these things. Again, a chance to tell your kid, "Because youre asian people will make all kinds of assumptions about you. This is the real world. Some will be fair, some unfair, some hurtful, some will give you some privileges, etc."
If she walked away shouting, "I know that's not your kid!" etc, I would too find her rude. Youve got to anchor this, though, not in racism but in her desire to protect YOUR kid. She didnt broach it because she felt like shaming some azn. She broached it because she does not want anything bad to happen to your kid.
Taht would be my take. |

As part of a three step discussion I had with him the next day, I explained that she’d had some bad thing happen to her so her mind was not right. I did that so as to make sure he has a firm grounding in the importance of understanding, and some sympathy thet might flow from that.
Part two was explaining that she had been fiired because regardless of her mental problems there’s a right way to treat people w d both of us deserved to be treated properly.
Part three was explaining thst the owners want to have dinner with us at another retaurant because they know it was wrong and hurtful and they want to make the hurt up to us.
To do what you suggest would be inappropriate in my opinion because it would inject safety concerns generally, and part of my job is to make him feel safe so he can prosper without fear drawing up his energy. To suggest that there is somehow some nexus of concern while in the presence of his own father would not accomplish that and would only confuse him. |
