I've been addicted to coffee for the last 20+ years — drinking 3 to 4 strong Italian macchiatos a day.
I'd sometimes drink it on an empty stomach to avoid stuffing my face and getting fat. Often I ended up wrecking my stomach lining and getting ulcers. After the last episode, I had to quit for a month and went searching for a decent substitute. Matcha? Weak. Black tea? Lol. Then I found Yerba Mate.
Bros, this is the real shit. Total game-changer. You need to both prepare it and drink it the proper way (YouTube vid below) or it won't work. I'm down to 1–2 coffees a day (for the taste) and 2–4 mates (for the clean high and energy boost). Best discovery I've made in years. Argentinians were right all along. I wish I'd found this shit 20 years ago.

We used to drink this in the college cafeteria and yell “MATEEE!!”
It gives you a little buzz that differs from caffeine, but it is certainly not a replacement for caffeine, less of a pick me up.
I think there’s concerns about cancer too, or maybe that’s just from the really hot temp people drink it at.
I’ll drink it every once in a while if I want to cut back on coffee.
