My partner now is very thoughtful, is generous but in a quieter way, he’s helpful without being overbearing, on a number of occasions he’s gently (and not so gently) explained how a friend or coworker was being misogynistic/racist/homophobic/transphobic in a way that he actually helped them open their minds more. He is genuinely sweet to all servers, store workers etc. He leads with empathy everyday. He’s truly my soft place to land.

It's true, but also the term "nice guy" is fast going the way of "incel". Becoming a sort of a meme for a particular kind of guy.

Incel now only means men who take out their anger over being single by blaming women, rather than just someone who is socially or circumstantially unlucky in ever finding a relationship.

Nice guy, going from being a guy who treats women well, into a meme for being a guy with entitlement for how he treats women.

My nice guy ex was just that. No underlying layers, nothing below the surface, just….nice. No passions, no ambitions, no hobbies other than camping. He wore (and still does) flip flops a T-shirt and cargo pants, had milk crates for a bedside table, etc. Yes he was nice but my god was he boring, a wet blanket if you will. We broke up and he met a girl a week later who is also just nice they got married and their life looks so f’ing boring.

I used to be an admin for a dating website. the term nice guy in your profile would put you in a queue to review your profile. From my experience. Nice Guys are either scammers, bots, or misogynists.

My ex fiance was a nice guy. He even had the audacity to rant to me early in our relationship about how he never had any luck in relationships because nice guys finish last. We were actively dating when he said this to me. The whole time we were together, on paper he was perfect but something was always off. Ultimately he never prioritized me or us, it was always his idea of what people wanted, or this imaginary ideal relationship that he was always going for. When I finally left him my stress and anxiety immediately decreased so much. Every time I talked to him, it was like he sucked all the energy and joy from my soul. I was his emotional regulation.

TLDR: nice guys suck

Ya, my ex husband was super nice, very generous and outgoing but I realized over time it was alllll for show. He’d buy rounds and rounds of drinks, would give expensive gifts, would bring good wine over to friends places etc. It was always for an audience in order to get praise.

When I was going through my separation, my ex kept saying to me... "Everything you bring up is just all the negative stuff, it's wasn't all bad!! You're only remembering the bad stuff!!"

Yes. Yes I am. I'm remembering the bar fights, the verbal and sexual abuse, the blaming me for every failure in his life, the way he'd scream and yell if everything wasn't perfect, the way I paid for EVERYTHING except when we went out, the time when I found condoms and viagra in the trunk of our car and was told that the viagra was for his depression and that he was keeping condoms around in case I stopped taking birth control (wtf?!) - oh and two were missing from the package so... okay... oh ya, and the time he throw me to the ground and kicked me in the stomach because I asked if he started smoking.

Silly me... I should have instead focused on the time you bought me flowers that one time... or how you paid for dinners out, or how you "let me" play softball for a season before you told me that I wasn't spending enough time with you...
