i have also decided to leave law in 3-5 years. i had that as a soft goal before, but i decided we have at least 15-20 years where we will both be good looking, mobile and fuckable (probably 20-25 with plastic surgery) and i'd rather spend that with her (and the kids) doing fun stuff. not sure what i'm doing, but it'll be some kind of part-time job.

our back story is weird. there was an indie rock/punk gossip site called buddyhead in the early 00s. it had a messageboard. we both poasted on it. there was the inevitable "post your pic" thread and i thought she was absolutely gorgeous in addition to being hilarious and chill. i had a fiancee and she had a bf (not really serious) and i convinced her to fly to DC from cleveland to meet me.

we fell in love instantly and ended both of our relationships. i flew to cleveland that august, jumped in her car and we drove here. we spent every second together for years and loved it.

the passion did wear off but it took several years. but it's back 100% for me now. it's crazy. when i look at her, my heart flutters, and we lay in bed talking and i feel a buzz all over my body like i'm high.

maybe my addictive personality is rearing its head again? who knows.

i'm taking her to the inn at little washington in august. 20 year anniversary of us driving here from cleveland.

in addition to that, she's got my back and is a great mom.

i'm not a fan of that in love/love dichotomy, it ignores the changes we all weather through the phases of life and often requires ever bigger and bolder steps to sustain the passion of the early days. it's basically the precursor to cuckoldry imo. and there is so much beauty in raising a family with someone, that in love bullshit just glazes over all of that. none of that is sexy work but it's devotional and loving work.

then our first kid came and instead of voicing how i felt about our intimacy, i acted out.

i think that me finally confronting the intimacy thing head on last year was what sparked this. the sexual connection slowly came back, and over time it hit me just how much i love everything about her and i remember how crazy i was about her when we met. and i feel that way again.

whatever it is, i'm not gonna question it. everything is going so well i don't wanna jinx it.
