option a - get roommates. to get a decent room in a good neighborhood, i'd still have to pay about $1200 (at best). worth it to pay a few more hundred a month and have my own spot, in my opinion.
option b - get a similar apartment way out in Virginia/md. I'd probably pay the same as I do now but it'd be a little nicer (updated, maybe a bit more room, central heat/cooling). my commute time would double, id have to rely on dc public transport, i'd have to uber to go out or do some of the stuff i do regularly that is walkable now

I like your apartment! Even though you're not exactly balling out, you are doing well and can bring guests back to your apartment with confidence. I like the minimalist approach. Many guys your age in urban areas are either 1) bankrolled by parents, 2) living with roommates, or 3) living in less ideal neighborhoods. You should be proud.
It's fairly small for what you are paying, but you're in a prime location you say. I've seen much bigger studios in DC in the mid-1ks, and they were in fine areas of town (little north on Connecticut).
I would probably move those green boxes somewhere else though -- perhaps in your closet, under your hung shirts?
