Southeast Asians, like Europeans, have already gotten the message wrt industrialized bloodshed and the "real point" of life (enjoyment). They usually seem pretty zen to me. I hate the automobile, I hate American roadways, I hate everything to do with transportation in this country, scooters and tuk-tuk cabs in the tropics sound like a dream in comparison to playing Frogger every time you need to cross an intersection or having to be on constant guard for Xanax addled hispanic mothers in oversized SUV pachyderms slamming into you. It's all stupid expensive too, again precision calibrated to suck a barely tolerable amount of blood out of you, auto insurance, titles, tickets, fees for this fees for that, 2$ on the turnpike to travel a mile, etc it's all unbearable. You look at these systems and know that Satan is Lord and Master and you're just supposed to be scurrying from ziggurat to ziggurat walking in the ever-present shadow of this, no security, no relief, no community, no peace, no anything. We are slaves to the dollar in this nightmare place and the master of the dollar is for all intents and purposes an undying body-swapping lich. If you are experiencing history in the US you are generally experiencing it as catastrophe and it would be interesting and novel to live in a place where that isn't the case |
