Every time I try to learn how it works I run into a brick wall of terminology, with one unknown leading to two more

It's more complex than baseball, but it's in the same basic universe as baseball. The main difference is that in cricket you keep batting until you are out, you don't have to swing at the ball if you don't want to, and you don't have to run if you do hit the ball, so the same two batters (you bat in pairs) can be out there batting for hours on end, not just for one at-bat. Once you get that, the rest of the logic comes into view pretty quickly.

Even if it hits the wickets?

you can play defensively if you want to or need to, like a bunt with a dead bat to stop it hitting the wicket, and then not run

if it is high or wide of the wicket and it is not coming at you in a way that you can make an aggressive scoring shot, you can just let it go

I spent some of my childhood in Australia so I actually understand and know how to play this game. I can attest to the fact that, no matter how much I also love baseball, cricket is the greatest game of all.

its a fun game to watch, like baseball but even more chill to just have on in the background. if you watch it a few times youll figure it out, its not that complicated, it's just different from what youre used to

for some unknown reason my neighborhood park has a cricket pitch (basically a thin strip of astroturf and a cricket sized field). Turds are there every single weekend. I’ve seen them probably a few dozen times and still don’t know wtf they’re doing.

most sports are just dismissible as niggerball if you didnt grow up watching and playing them. i dont really know wtf is going on in lacrosse but dont care to figure it out. most of my euro friends dont go to an MLB game with me and walk out being like very interesting

most sports arent that hard to figure out. i've never seen lacrosse played but i imagine it's like soccer or hockey or or water polo or backetball where players go back and forth trying to get a ball into the other team's goal.

football is a little bit more complicated than those sports but it's the same idea.

baseball is complicated as fuck and i get how women and foreigners dont have a clue.

cricket i imagine is on the same level as baseball.

oy mate the bowler just tossed a real wobbler sure to find the wicket but the batter bludgeoned the bloody kookaburra clear over the leg slipman and the jolly fine leg bobbled the bloody thing which gave the bengalurus a fighting chance to close the gap on the gujarats
