urban violence is cyclical in lib cities. first they do no policing and the cities turn into shit holes. then (as soon as the violence starts impacting them directly, they're totally cool if others face horrible violent crime all day) they become tough on crime like 90s super predator dems. of course, this winds up fixing the problem, and they enjoy a decade or so of relative peace. and then their natural inclination to excuse black criminality creeps back in and they stop policing. rinse and repeat.
it's funny watching my cities subreddit go from "ACAB!!!" during the summer of floyd to "WE NEED MORE POLICE!" now. shockingly this has begun to occur as soon as violent crime started happening in the nice areas of town.

Great reference. We definitely seem to be creeping toward the dystopian cities of then 80s. Don't forget all the other great moments in that movie:
The crazy people at the bus station that her friend has to deal with
The hook-handed tow truck driver who gets in a domestic dispute and shoots out the windshield
The car thief who accidentally takes them to a mob meetup lol
The subway stabbing
The shitty ER with foreign doctors who can't keep track of patients
The black blues club that forces white kids to perform before they can leave
Awesome movie
