he recorded a Stevie Wonder bass line and posted it here a few days ago, the thread didn't get enough traction, it was very impressive bass playing on a demanding track, and in a rhythmically demanding style very different to Iron Maiden

This isn't the world's greatest guitar it's made in Korea, poly finish, stupid inlays.

But it's an ultra cheap super strat with active pickups, a Floyd Rose, and it's the actual guitar that Kirk Hammet uses. It's a guitar with a lot of lore and it's been used in thousands of live shows since the 90s. No frills but could be worth adding to any collection if it jumps out at you.

I almost would feel retarded not buying this. Talk me out of this mate.

Nah. But from the clips the bonebreaker active pickups sound just like the record. It's The sound and loads of people swear by it. I don't really care about playability. I do all my own setups so I don't really have an opinion on how a guitar plays until I make it my own. I have a very particular way of setting up guitars most people wouldn't like. I do everything myself. I've never found a guitar I couldn't get to play the way I wanted to outside of ultra cheap ones that were just made poorly. I'm sure I would like this one.

Now I'm debating whether to get purple.

have you ever played with active EMGs?

I have not. I have a lot of experience with high end pickups, have Lindy Fralens on like three of my guitars, but never EMGs

I once heard Zakk Wylde (my hero) say that when he started using EMGs it was "like someone pulled a shipping blanket all of the amp cabinet blocking the sound" but I'm not sure of the sonic difference. Obviously a lot of rock guys used EMGs and actives through the years.

No I've never played actives. I did have a high output ceramic humbucker once. I don't really remember how it sounded. I think it's in a box somewhere. It's the one that Matt Bellamy uses. I think the idea behind it was that he wanted to split the difference between the active tone and retain a passive tone but have really high output. Higher output means more distortion and breakup.

Virtually all metalheads fuck with active pickups. I think it just drives the amp. Nearly all metal tones are active. I'm not a big metal head though. Active pickups force the issue they're going to overdrive the amp a lot quicker than passive. For example my strat the output is like 5 or 6 ohms. It can't get an amp to break up without a pedal. I think the EMGs are 10 ohms so right there it's gonna overdrive right away. That's the main difference.

Active is the only way to get a lot of treble in your bass tone. It's the only way to really cut through the mix when all else fails.

Yeah seems like you need active electronics to get that super clear articulate tone. But I’ll tell you the $200 peavey with 2 passive single coil pickups I bought a couple weeks ago is currently my favorite bass in my collection.

I agree. I don't like having stuff just for the pleasure of knowing i have it. I've been playing bass every day and cycle through all the basses. Every day i play 2-3 of them. It keeps me from stalling out because each has its own feel.

That's a great channel worth watching everything.

You must be a specialist in bass. I'm a guitarist who plays bass out of necessity and I'm just better at it than most so you can try and revoke my bass card but I can play most under the table.

Some say Prince was the greatest bassist who ever lived but who knows I wouldn't go that far.

Glad you're practicing.

I’m really not a pedal guy. The only ones I’ve ever used are a tech 21 sansamp, electro harmonix bassballs, and a boss oc3.

Thinking of getting a compression pedal and an mxr synth pedal but it’s like $300.

I highly recommend an MXR Bass Compressor. You can dial in an incredibly punchy tone. I think it's essential.

I've always wanted a bassballs but I can never think of what I would use it for. If I don't have a concrete idea then I don't want to expand my collection too much.

I want to try the synth one. I have a lot of guitar pedals. Probably too many. Sometimes I check price on Reverb and a boutique pedal I own has gone up by an insane amount and I sell it. Guitar pedalmos are insane lol
