once you blink, you forever see very organized, clearly-planned "areas of permission" for men:
- online sports betting
- potent marijuana
- online pornography
- lottery
- cryptocurrency
If you begin with de jure american law and expressed american morality, and dig even an inch, none of these things existing makes sense. Most should be, or already are, illegal. All of them conflict directly with our stated principles of conduct, etc. But they all exist widely and out in the open.
You might think its some reservoir of libertarianism, or that cops cannot arrest *everybody*, etc, but again if you dig down even an inch you realize these things would be extremely easy to curtail and even stop entirely.
You start to realize not only are these permitted, but they are expressly created and cultivated.
What conclusion you arrive at next is up to you, i guess.

you miss the point, or i didnt articulate the point well
we criminalize and prosecute and incarcerate tens of millions of people for "pursuing exploitative ways to make money". We clearly have the capacity and will to do so.
We loophole pornographers, gambling apps, weed vape sellers, and a few other classes of people... wonder why

because they give people in the government money so that they don't get regulated, and because the voting population really likes these things so people in the government are scared of going after them out of self-interest. we know why
this isn't a mystery at all. the world is not actually that complicated
there is no grand conspiracy going on here. these degenerate, exploitative industries booming is exactly what you would expect to happen given how our society and government works. and in fact, many many people predicted things to play out exactly this way, well ahead of time

shouldn’t be a casino allowed within 200 miles of any major city

i'm not going to try and second guess the business plan of the Las Vegas strip nickel and diming the shit out of everyone...
but it surprises me no one is even attempting to fill the niche the entire damn city was based on until a few years ago...

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1), passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump in July 2025, includes a provision impacting gambling deductions, according to multiple reports.
Here's how it affects gambling:
Limited Deduction for Losses: The bill limits the amount gamblers can deduct for their losses against their winnings to 90%. Previously, gamblers could deduct 100% of their losses, provided the losses didn't exceed their winnings.
Taxable Income Even When Breaking Even: This change means that even if a gambler breaks even on wins and losses, they will still owe taxes on 10% of their winnings. For example, if someone wins $100,000 and loses $100,000, they would still owe taxes on $10,000.
Impact on Professional Gamblers: This provision has raised concerns among professional gamblers, who often operate on small margins and could face significantly higher tax burdens and potentially even owe more in taxes than they actually earn.
