Note that I don't think we should subsidize any state taxes or have any SALT deduction although I would personally benefit. |

Top 1% is 682k, average rate for states that charge income tax is around 4%. Property taxes are all over the map, but probably enough to put the hypothetical taxpayer over 30k for the most part.
Top 5% is 282k and they wont be over 30k state and local taxes unless they really try. Like there are places in texas where they could overleverage themselves and qualify for a mortgage on a place that would be over 30k property taxes, but they would be dumb to do so on that income. |
