I am approaching there but so far only plan to work more than 1fte. Just secured a 600/hr weekend contract and plan to make 7500 working 9am-9pm weekend. Or just 5400 9-6. I have nothing better to do since a bitch broke my heart. If there is a market crash and I put money in qqq at discount (or at least below 600) then I'll be able to take it easy.

There’s a beautiful scene in A River Runs Through It where Craig Sheffer’s character asks Brad Pitt’s character to come with him to Chicago. Pitt looks up with a mysterious smirk and says, “oh I’ll never leave Montana, brother” in that perfect little way that tells the audience it’s foreshadowing.

Of course in the novella by the same name, Paul did go to Chicago, did continue to drink, and met his end in the cold streets on the south side of Chicago.

So there’s that.

At a conservative 3% per year withdrawal rate, that's about $90k per year or $7500/mo. We can assume that income taxes would be pretty low on that. You should be able to live pretty well on $90k per year, even if you have to rent housing.

$4k/month rent

$800/month car

$2700/month miscellaneous expenses

A married couple should be able to do this easily. You could even reduce housing to $2k/month or less if you don't need a big house.

On doctor forum plenty of people brag about 10million portfolio at 50 and no plans to retire.. most of them were all in spy since 2008 or so and putting % of salary each paycheck each month. Most have 50yo wife and 2-3kids.

Many of them say they have nothing better to do and they're only musing about going part-time. And a lot of that is due to spy/qqq returns. I doubt future returns and future pay will be the same..

I have doubts that 3million will be a lot 20 years from now... think about it new iPhone now costs $2000 and that's supposed to be a deflationary item.. HOA fees, house taxes, quality population decline make any real estate investment a very bad idea. So if you retire with 3million you may put all that into qqq while usa stock market may crash just like in Japan 1990. Btw next usa president may enact wealth tax, increase fica tax, etc. And you can't escape it by moving abroad.
