When Egyptian civilization was already in its Middle Kingdom, when the code of Hammurabi was being conceived in Babylon, there were still mammoths.
They weren't just contemporaneous with early pyramid builders; they outlasted them by centuries.
They were ghosts from another epoch, living on borrowed time.
