I had to watch some old videos of people playing Ultima VII to see what was missing from modern RPGs. The main thing about those Ultima games was the way you could build your own crew of men, buff their stats and train them to do different things, then lose one of them all of a sudden in a dragon fight. I still remember the face of one guy I lost like that. He had long blonde hair. In modern RPGs there's really no way you can have game mechanics like that.
