nevertheless, box has repeatedly threatened and harassed posters with the prospect of outing them. but box has actually -EMAILED POSTERS AT THEIR WORK- threatening to out them. how fucking psycho can a person be and how did this not get her banned in the first place?
and even though she claims she didn't actually cause or contribute to CP's outing (she did) her long and idiotic screed openly acknowledges that she threatened to out him multiple times because he had hurt her feelings/teased her.

i do think she was crossing the line by threatening to out him, even if she supposedly thought she would be doing a service for "the greater good." i agree that she probably felt less threatened than she says she did, and more just disliked the guy and used outing as a threat to scare him away. but considering she didn't even know who he was at the time, and made a point not to out him when she did, i think she was being a bitch but not breaking any "xo code" or whatever.

i also don't think that threatening to out someone is ok, in general, even if you don't intend to do it. but i think that saying "leave me alone or i'll out you if it turns out you're a serial killer" is well within the bounds of acceptability. |

Even if her implausible claim that she had nothing to do with him actually bring outed was true, I think telling someone that they better stop doing something (in this case making mean,but non outing posts about box) or else your going to out their IRL name and try to fuck up their life should get you tossed from the board. I've yet to hear anyone give an intelligent reason why it should be otherwise. |

she didn't know about the blog until AFTER the threat. at the time of the threat all she knew was that he had an irl reputation for being a stalker. as soon as she saw the blog post, she realized that outing would not be appropriate and told him as much.

honestly, if it were anyone but box, i'd believe it. but she is a rationalization masterwoman, so i just assume she's bsing.
again, though, i don't think it breaks any xo code to say, "i will out you if i figure out who you are and it turns out you're a psychotic stalker who poses a real threat to people on this board." i think it's inappropriate for anyone but rach to do something like this, and even she admitted later that she should not have threatened to take matters into her own hands, but i don't think she poses a threat to the board for her misguided attempt to scare a guy away by outing him on the condition that he was a psychotic stalker. in general, she seems very respectful of posters' anonymity, as evidenced by her lengthy crusades against doobs's behavior (assuming she really was BMC). even the lh thing, while wildly inappropriate, did not demonstrate a tendency toward public outing. |
