Date: February 16th, 2022 8:54 PM Author: adventurous stage Well let's start off by acknowledging that smooth moon theory is the default theory mankind held until the time of Galileo. No one ever questioned that whatever being put the moon up there would only have put up a perfectly smooth object. Even if the shading was not uniform, why wouldn't it be anything but a perfectly smooth sphere?
So Galileo invents this device that lets you see the surface of the moon, and it looks all misshapen, with craters and blemishes that give it that bombarded look. Ever since then people have just assumed those really are craters from "meteor impacts" (anyone ever seen one of those btw?), but it could just as easily be painted to look that way. It's not like a telescope is giving you stereoscopic vision that would let you confirm. |
