director wang bing (previously known for his 10-hour steelworker documentary 'west of the tracks') spent 2014 through 2019 filming migrant workers at various sweatshops in huzhou, including their labor disputes, their dormitories, and their new years' holidays.
one of the more interesting sequences is around 42 minutes in part III, where the film crew joins a migrant worker couple as they return to their village in hardcore ass-backwards rural yunnan province for new years' and a wedding:

from what i can find, the road shown in the film was partly replaced by one of those new chinese mega-bridges that spans entire valleys, but it is still in use because the new route is still longer and not as direct.
