A regular bike would be better for fitness, but it's also significantly slower, particularly if you have to go up hills, and I don't always have an hour to burn to get to the dentist's office and back. But an e-bike is at worst only slightly slower than driving. Sometimes it is actually faster if traffic is heavy or parking is limited.
