yeah i feel like a lot of people have that moment. i had it very late (still have never owned a p bass). I always viewed the J as the sexier, cooler, smarter model and P as the clunky grandpa bass. But then you play a nice one and you're just like shit that's why this thing is so beloved and timeless. |

To get the iconic tones it’s either all bridge pickup for that jaco farty tone or you need effects to get a geddy lee type tone. A passive single coil j style neck pickup is all but useless for me.
Simple p bass has no problem getting the exact tones you want from Motown to modern rock. |
